Dead Orbit Summer
Hailing from the beige, modular hab-blocks of Novacron City’s middle-class Helium Heights district, Dead Orbit Summer is an emo pop-punk outfit channeling late-20th-century Earth suburban angst through a neo-romantic futuristic lens. Formed out of boredom in the food court of their local orbital hyper-mall, the band cycled through early iterations like Lunar Tantrum and The Cryo-Sleep Jerks before finding their true voice (and their name) while stranded in a decaying orbit—an event that inspired their upcoming debut album on FreqAtomic Records titled In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream (About Your Ex).The group is led by the impulsive and brassy Degen Jen, whose volatile romantic history with lead guitarist and manipulative ex-boyfriend Dirk fuels the raw emotion of their lyrics. It should be noted that Dirk's unhealthy obsession with Blink 182 serves to infuriate Jen yet improve his own guitar work. While Jen and Dirk provide the interpersonal drama, the band is anchored by the steady, flannel-clad basslines of Clem and the thunderous, unbridled enthusiasm of their Scandinavian drummer, Bjorn. Currently, Dead Orbit Summer’s first single Black Hole Boyfriend from their upcoming debut album is out now through AtomicFreq Records. The track serves as a good introduction to Degen Jen’s emotional gymnastics and Dirk's angsty guitar riffs while also offering the listener a clear glimpse into both of their penchants for dynamic drama.
